Vacation anyone?

Ron's post got me thinking:

Where is the most interesting vacation destination you have been to?

Where would you like to go? Who would you take?

Why haven't you gone?

Sounds a little like a jounal assignment for English class doesn't it? Anyway, I thought it might be interesting to hear where everyone has been and where we'd like to go. Maybe a destination reunion is in order....

All of our vacations have had some really neat highlights - like the time we were in Florida and we not only saw a sea turtle laying her eggs, but a hidden nest hatched during fireworks on the fourth of July and baby sea turtles were running all over the place.

The most interesting vacation destination for me has to be Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado near Durango. I really enjoyed seeing the Cliff dwellings and hiking. Lake Powell near Page Arizona, near Monument Valley and the caverns ranks very high as well. It is near Needles State Park, Arches, Grand Canyon, etc. Moab Utah is gorgeous. If you're looking for a "pull your camper" type vacation - you could go to the four corners - Utah, New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado. Beautiful country and you could just camp your way through it.

I would really like to go to Greece, Egypt, Italy, the Mediterranian. I'd love to take the kids and show them that there is a whole world out there and it is a very small one indeed.

We haven't gone because of the F-word... Finances. Taking everything (food, airfare, etc) times 6 adds up quickly. And, I don't know how to spell Mediterranian, so I probably shouldn't be allowed to go there! ;-)

Well, the most interesting vacation we took was probably to Puerto Rico, CJ was in a wedding there so we stayed extra to be able to tour all the sites. Definately plan to go back!!!!! This may we went to Washington D.C. which surprising enough was really neat. Almost wish I would have paid more attention to Mr. Fried's government class, my 10yr old was waaaaaaaaaaayyyyy smarter than me on that trip!!

The best vacation I've ever been on as an adult would have to be to San Antonio... Great Place eh Lisa? Can't beat the food at the Mi Tierra. Scott and I flew to Dallas on our honeymoon, went to a Cowboys/49ers game and then drove to San Antonio for about 5 days. We spent New Year's on the Riverwalk. We also toured the old Missions and ate some really great meals!!

Scott's family is originally from there. His grandaddy lived in Columbus which is about half way between SA and Houston and his brother now lives in Houston. His dad grew up down South near Corpus Chrisi. We'd love to go down that far sometime.

As far as my dream vacation... I'd like to go somewhere tropical with the ocean and lots of sand and cool drinks with umbrellas. Maybe in the Carribbean or off the West Coast of Mexico... maybe for our 10 year anniversary.

I'm thinking that Vegas would be a fun reunion destination for us!!! There is so much to do and see, I think we could have a good time there! (can you tell I just got back from there) haha

Well we didn't take a honeymoon. I did get to briefly see Bermuda on a working vacation as a nanny when I was 18. That was really beautiful. My husband had a quick tour of Europe when he was 18 for his Senior Trip. Then in 2005 we went to the Gulf Coast of Florida (Madiera Beach)for a week. It was really great. We rented a condo right on the coast and we ate breakfast and dinner on our balcony and saw dolphins swimming past everyday. We also went to the Salvadore Dali Museum, took a sailing lesson, took a pontoon boat tour, and went to see Busch Gardens Africa in Tampa. They were a million things to do there. That was a blast. But I also love it when we visit Malta and go camping somewhere around there. There is nothing like the fresh cool air and Big Sky with the sunsets and the stars at night!

Bonnie-
I'm all for Vegas as long as I can gamble on your bank roll. As long as I don't let you play blackjack I should be safe. HeHe
The last time we were there was 9 years ago (BFK) for a Nascar Race and World of Outlaws race. It was a lot of fun.

Vacations? I probably did more traveling as a kid than I have as an adult. When I was 10 I traveled to Ill, and saw Abraham Lincolns home and wax muesum. That same summer I also went to Missouri, and went to the top of the Arch, and the zoo. When I was 16 I sailed for 2 weeks in the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington. Rode horses off the coast of Washington and camped on the beach. When I was 22 and in Indiana visiting my mom, we went to the Indy time trails and I saw a wreck right in front of me. The speed and intensity was awesome. More recently like last year my husband was in Denver for a conference so we spent some time going to the Zoo, Molly Brown's house, and The Titanic was also on display, you actualy get to touch part of it at the end. That was an awe struck moment.
I would say thou, one of the best road trips we took was when Dave and I were first dating. Motley Crue was touring and in Grand Forks ND. So we took off across Montana to ND and thru that state to GRand Forks. As we traveled we discussed getting tats together. Now mind you we had only been together for about 6 months....As we come into town we see a shop called MaGoo's , later we research it and call to make appts. As we travel there for our appts and arrive at the house, we are told to go to the shed, that looks like a old farm building in Malta weathered and worn, leaning over to the side near falling, but once you open the doors it's the inside of an old bar. His shop is very clean and professional and as we talk we learn that he traveled with some well known bands and did tattoos, a big biker and has been having kids for quite a while. His son is his partner while his other child at home was into Disney movies and books (she was 2).
That was good for me because I was requesting a Nemo tattoo, and he wasn't sure who that was but thought his daughter had the book. Dave decided to get a dolphin for me since I love the sealife. Once the picture was found and I had insured the artist the fin was suppose to be smaller than the other one (he thought the book was messed up)by telling him the whole story of Nemo & his lucky fin we were on our way to being inked. Well now that we look back we laugh our butts off, driving clear across two states, attending a Rock concert, and getting "fish" tats, how tough are we? But the real kicker was the next tour Motley Crue did they were in Bozeman...that's always my luck.

My most interesting vacation--if you can call it that--was to Boston. I went there for a conference and did the tourist thing the day before it started. I wish I could have spent at least a week there--it was amazing to actually go into the old North Church, see Paul Revere's house, and go to the sight of the Boston Tea Party--and then of course there's Cheers. My most fun vacation was probably when Kory and I went to Vegas when we were dating--we didn't spend a lot of time there, but we did have fun (although Kory is not much of a shopper!). And I must say the Hearst Castle in California is also an awesome tourist destination along with Pismo Beach.

I'm with Becky--I'd love to go to Greece, Egymp, Italy and the Mediterranian. And I would really like to go to DC sometime.
